On August 22, 2012 the Middletown Police Department Detective Bureau and Quality of Life Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Nautilus Drive in Leonardo after a month long investigation into the distribution of narcotics from the home. The warrant resulted in the arrests of the entire family for various narcotics offenses.
Police recovered various narcotics from inside the home and discovered Marijuana plants growing near the pool in the backyard. The New Jersey Department of Fish and Game assisted the police when they discovered two Rattlesnakes in the home as well other violations. Charges relating to those violations were expected to be filed this week.
The following is a list of the family members and their charges:
Damian Newell, age 20: Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Improper Disposal of Hypodermic Syringes, Possession of Steroids, Possession of a Hallucinogenic Drug, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 Feet of a School Zone and Possession of Marijuana within 500 Feet of a Public Park. He was held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ on $146,000.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Thomas Scully.
Ronald Newell Jr., age 44: Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Improper Disposal of Hypodermic Syringes, Possession of Steroids, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of a School Zone, Possession of Marijuana within 500 Feet of a Public Park and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. He was held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ, on $102,000.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Thomas Scully.
Sarah Newell, age 18: Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Unlawful Possession of Certain Prescription Legend Drugs, Unlawful Possession of Xanax, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 Feet of a School Zone and Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Park. She was held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ, on $100,000.00 bail set by Judge Thomas Scully.
Jessica Coleman Newell, age 45: Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Improper Disposal of Hypodermic Syringes, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 Feet of a School Zone, Possession of Marijuana within 500 feet of a Public Park, Unlawful Possession of Certain Prescription Legend Drugs and Possession of Steroids. She was held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ, on $106,000.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Thomas Scully.
Daniel Newell, age 20: Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Improper Disposal of Hypodermic Syringes, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 500 Feet of a Public Park, Possession of Marijuana within 1000 feet of a School Zone and Possession of Steroids. He was released after posting $41,000.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Thomas Scully.
The arrests were the result of an investigation conducted by Officer Adam Colfer and Officer James Beirne of the Quality of Life Unit and the Detective Bureau. Conservation Officer Shannon Martiak from the New Jersey Division of Fish and Game and Officer Chris Tiberon of the Union Beach Police Department and his K-9 partner, Mako, also assisted in the investigation.
