MIDDLETOWN – Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County kicked off Blitz Build 2014 in Port Monmouth on the second anniversary Superstorm Sandy to help families with storm-related home repairs.
Mayor Stephanie Murray, Township Administrator Anthony Mercantante, Monmouth County Freeholders Tom Arnone and Serena DiMaso were among those that joined Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County at the Henn family home in Port Monmouth to mark the start of Build Blitz 2014. The blitz will continue through November 1st. Organizers plan to complete several small to medium sized construction projects during the blitz.
The Henn family was selected by Habitat for Humanity. Their family home was devastated by Superstorm Sandy. It’s the focus of the Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County campaign The House that Youth Built. This campaign is a youth based service project aimed at engaging schools and youth organizations to help raise funds needed for the Henn Family of Middletown, a family displaced from Hurricane Sandy since 2012. The Henn Family home will be the fourth new Sandy home constructed by the organization.

The initiative is part of Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County’s continued Sandy Relief efforts and comes one year after President Carter and his wife Rosalyn visited Union Beach for a Blitz Build than helped over 14 families. In the nearly two years since Hurricane Sandy, over 85 families have been assisted by Habitat in Monmouth in communities across the Bayshore and the entire service area.
